DAY 12: ANDERNOS-LES-BAINS - REST DAY: 26km
WEDNESDAY 10 JUNE
Red sky in the morning - we should have taken more notice
It was great to be in one place for a second day and we were looking forward to exploring the area further. When we woke up it promised to be a lovely day and we packed up the tandem for a day ride.
It was still very windy so we put even bigger rocks on the tent pegs before we left
We thought we would have a look at the oyster port
Then it clouded over and started to rain
We sheltered in a nearby cafe for as long as we could
It was disappointing that the weather was so bad as we had been looking forward to exploring the area. To make it worse we had already bought a picnic so could not even have lunch in the cafe. We decided that we would just have to make a dash for it as they would be wanting our table for diners. The rain was really heavy, although it wasn't particularly cold, so we cycled on to Ares looking for somewhere dry to eat.
The picnic and the view were lovely - shame about the weather
While researching the holiday I had come across a picture of somewhere called Conche de St. Brice that looked beautiful and was really keen to see it. After our picnic we set off in the heavy rain to look for it as we knew it was somewhere near Ares.
It didn't quite look like the tourist publicity photo
We sheltered from the horizontal rain in the hope that it would stop
Very rapidly we reached the conclusion that it wasn't going to stop raining and decided we ought to return to Andernos and find a bar where we could dry off and get warm before going back to the tent. By the time we got back to Andernos the rain had stopped so we visited our favourite ice cream parlour and sat inside in the warm looking out at the grey sea.
Our next stop was a bar where we sat and read our books
By the time we got back to the tent we were warm and dry. We decided to eat at the nearby restaurant again as it was quicker than walking into town and had another nice meal there. When we came out it was absolutely pouring with rain so we arrived back at the tent wet but it wasn't cold and it was cosy inside the tent listening to the wind and rain. We went to sleep hoping that it would stop by the morning.
